Most people think painting season ends when the leaves come down. For the inside of your home, it's just getting started.
In New Hampshire, we spend more time indoors from December through March than any other part of the year. You notice every scuff on the hallway walls, every dated color in the living room, and every bit of chipped trim on the stairs. Winter is when your walls get the most attention, and it's also one of the best times to have them painted.
Here's why our December calendar is one of our favorite times of year, and why it could be yours too.
1. You get your pick of the schedule
From April through October, most painting companies in Southern NH are booked solid with exterior work. Come spring, everyone wants their interior done at the same time.
December is different. Booking now means more flexibility on start dates, so you can work your project around school breaks, travel, or company coming. It also means you won't be waiting until May to get on the calendar.
2. Dry winter air works in your favor
Once the heat kicks on, New Hampshire homes get dry. That low humidity helps paint dry evenly between coats, which keeps your project moving.
Because we're working inside a heated home, cold temperatures outside don't affect the job. Your walls, trim, and ceilings stay at a steady, comfortable temperature the whole time.
3. Start the new year in a home you love
There's something about January that makes people want a fresh start. A newly painted kitchen, family room, or bedroom turns a long New Hampshire winter into something you actually enjoy coming home to. Lighter, warmer colors can also make rooms feel brighter during the short days.
And if you're thinking about selling in the spring, getting interior painting done now means your home is ready to list before the spring rush.
4. Spring is free for the outside
Getting your interior done in winter frees up your spring and summer budget and schedule for the projects that can only happen in warm weather: exterior painting, wood rot repair, deck staining, and patio or driveway sealcoating.
5. It's a great time to tackle the "someday" projects
Winter is the perfect time for the projects that have been on your list for years:
Kitchen cabinet refinishing that makes a dated kitchen feel brand new
Wallpaper for a powder room, dining room, or accent wall
High-gloss finishes on a front door, built-ins, or a library wall, using Fine Paints of Europe
Trim, doors, and stairways that take a beating from boots and backpacks
What December painting looks like with our crew
We know having a painting crew in your home during the holidays can feel like a lot. That's why we keep it simple. Our full-time painters show up on time, protect your floors and furniture, and clean up so thoroughly each night that you can live comfortably in your home throughout the project. (And yes, we're pet friendly.)
We can also phase the work room by room, so the spaces you need most stay open.
Questions we hear this time of year
Is it OK to paint inside during a New Hampshire winter? Yes. Interior paint needs a warm, stable room, and a heated home provides that. We manage ventilation so your home stays comfortable while we work.
Can you finish before the holidays? It depends on the size of the project and our schedule. Reach out early and we'll tell you honestly what's possible.
Do you paint interiors in my town? We paint homes across Southern New Hampshire, including Bedford, Hollis, Londonderry, etc., plus the Lakes Region and the Seacoast. Check out our Service Pages here.
